running

Housing Families 5k

Since I started running again this summer, I figured I might as well go ahead and sign up for a local 5k and give myself something to shoot for. Despite having run off and on (more off than on, admitted) for decades now, I have never done an event. I picked this one because it was local, and probably the weather wouldn’t be too bad at this time of year. img_0571The forecast was for heavy rain and wind due to the tropical storm remnants passing through, but as it turned out, that was all done overnight. The sky cleared up completely an hour before we started.

I kinda wish that it hadn’t–it was 70 degrees under bright sun for a lunchtime run, when I am used to 50-something temps before dawn, and between the heat and plunging blood sugar, I ended up walking about a third of it. (I don’t know my time because I failed to start the app correctly, but suffice to say that it was very, very slow.) However, I can now say that I have given it a try! Trying new things is important, as I keep telling my kids. The volunteers were nice, the site was very pretty, and everyone there seemed to know one another. There are worse ways to spend an hour.
